More Roses, More fun! The International Festival in Tralee extends its Festivites

THE hot topic for Rose of Tralee fans this year was the news that whoever is selected to be the next San Francisco Rose will be guaranteed a place at the 2016 Rose of Tralee International Festival.

Taking place from 17th to 23rd August, the 2016 Rose of Tralee International Festival will run for seven days featuring 70 Roses, more entertainment and an extra night’s TV coverage.

For the past 5 years the San Francisco Rose had to travel to the Midlands at the end of May to take part in a qualifying event to try and make it through to the televised stages of Ireland’s top festival.

Only 32 Roses can be accommodated on live TV and, until now, it wasn’t feasible for the organisers to accommodate the full inclusion of the other 38 Roses at the Festival in Tralee.

One Co-ordinator of the San Francisco Rose of Tralee event, Marie Woods, said: “This is great news for anyone who considers entering the 2016 San Francisco Rose selection. Whoever is picked as the 2016 San Francisco Rose on February 20, 2016 will travel to Tralee in August. Such is the continued success of the Rose of Tralee on TV, RTÉ are introducing a third night of Rose of Tralee TV coverage from next year onwards. The Festival itself has also been extended from five to seven days and 68 Roses will travel to Tralee to enjoy the full festival.”

All Roses who travel to Tralee will take part in all the parades, Rose Ball, public engagements and a qualifying event over two nights in the Dome from which 32 Roses will be chosen to appear in the live selection broadcasts.

There’s an incentive for more women to enter the San Francisco Rose event this year in the knowledge that once she is selected, she will travel to Kerry in August to enjoy the full Festival.

Never before has it been easier to enter the San Francisco Rose Selection and young women of Irish birth or Irish background aged between 18 and 27 are being encouraged to fill-out an online application form at:

The 2016 Rose of Tralee will be crowned live on RTÉ 1 TV in the Dome on Tuesday 23rd August.
